Corporate Tax

Via Michael Roberts Notice that the two leading states of the neoliberal form of capitalism, US and UK, have the lowest corporate income tax.

Humanitarian Aid in Yemen

“Because good causes do not sell themselves but rather have to be sold, aid agencies have developed considerable marketing prowess…they will advertise if not embellish the tragedy in order to tap into the guilt of the rich.”  Agency self-promotion is part of the humanitarian aid business model, although there is a fine line between utilitarianism and exploitation. Exploitation

More propaganda against "our way of life" and "free market values" 1. How are we in the UK, for example, supposed to afford putting food on the table? 2. Aren't our aid organisations, philanthropists and celebrities helping poor people and our students learning how to empower them? 3. Hasn't this been going on for decades (centuries if we include the colonial era)? Why should we care now? Why should we question  capitalist relations nationally and worlwide? Maybe it is just some comapnies that are not "ethical"?   Exploitation and abuse in UK supermarket supply chains, says Oxfam
Amartya Sen "On the issue of liberalisation and the opening up of economies, Amartya has been rather mainstream. He hasn't raised very deep questions about the whole process and of globalisation in general. He's more of a mainstream economist than many people realise." More substantial criticisms revolve round his role in the current globalisation debate. Richard Jolly, while being an enormous admirer, says: "On the issue of liberalisation and the opening up of economies, Amartya has been rather mainstream. He hasn't raised very deep questions about the whole process and of globalisation in general. He's more of a mainstream economist than many people realise." Food for thought
