US: Joe Biden

“Yesterday’s Man: The Case Against Joe Biden by Branko Marcetic, exposes the forgotten history of Joe Biden, one of the United States’ longest-serving politicians, and one of its least scrutinized.

Over nearly fifty years in politics, the man called “Middle-Class Joe” served as a key architect of the Democratic Party’s rightward turn, ushering in the end of the liberal New Deal order and assisting the political takeover of the radical right.

Far from being a liberal stalwart, Biden often outdid even Reagan, Gingrich, and Bush, assisting the right-wing war against the working-class, and ultimately paving the way for Trump.

The most comprehensive political biography of someone who has tried for decades to be president, Yesterday’s Man is an essential read for anyone interested in knowing the real Joe Biden and what he might do in office.”

Americans must fight Joe Biden and the Democratic Party’s neoliberal agenda.

“We are now likely to witness the cycle repeating itself. As soon as Biden enters the White House, he will return Washington mostly to business-as-usual. And that business-as-usual was, of course, what led to Trumpism in the first place. Like his predecessors Obama and Clinton, he will pay lip service to the small progressive wing of his party and its naïve supporters who think the Democratic Party can somehow be reformed from within. What they miss is that corporate and billionaire backers that bankrolled Biden’s campaign now expect a return on their investment. And if he fails to follow through, he and his party will no longer receive their backing, spelling oblivion for his and other establishment Democrats’ entire political careers as well as the party itself.”

A movement against the Washington status quo?

“Many already sense this as a danger but, in despair , they look to the Democrats and even sections of big business to take action against Trump. This is a big mistake. Biden is a centrist neoliberal with close ties to Wall Street, Big Pharma and Silicon Valley. Democratic presidencies such as Clinton and Obama helped create the conditions under which Trump grew. Time magazine – hardly the voice of the left – ran a headline recently that summed it up: ‘The Top 1% of Americans Have Taken $50 Trillion From the Bottom 90%—And That’s Made the U.S. Less Secure’.

Any repressive measures promised against the right will invariably be used to target the left. The FBI’s record has not exactly been one of suppressing white supremacism. It has mainly targeted the left.”
