Quote of the Week: Justice

'Justice?' The colonel was astounded. 'What is justice?' 'Justice, sir –' 'That's not what justice is,' the colonel jeered, and began pounding the table again with his big fat hand. 'That's what Karl Marx is. I'll tell you what justice is. Justice is a knee in the gut from the floor on the chin at night sneaky with a knife brought up down on the magazine of a battleship sandbagged underhanded in the dark without a word of warning. Garrotting. That's what justice is when we've all got to be tough enough and rough enough to fight Billy Perolle. From the hip. Get it? —Joseph Heller,  Catch-22

Dismantling Green Colonialism: Energy and Climate Justice in the Arab Region

“I hope you are doing ok in these tragic times. I wish I could've announced the publication of this book in better times but unfortunately this is the world we live in, a world that we need to transform for the better by our resistance and social and environmental justice struggles, for the sake of humanity and the planet. Civilisation Means Exterminating Barbarians by Using Barbarian Methods

This an adapted rewriting of Heinrich von Treischke’s statement. “International law becomes meaningless when any attempt is made to apply its principles equally to barbarian nations. The only way to punish the Palestinians  is to make them pay tens of times for what they did; it is the only sort of example they understand. For the Israeli state and its backers to apply international law in cases like this would not be either humanity or justice; it would be shameful weakness.” The original quote: In 1898, the German political scientist Heinrich von Treischke stated what many of his contemporaries would have regarded as the obvious: “International law becomes meaningless when any attempt is made to apply its principles equally to barbarian nations. The only way to punish a black tribe is to burn their villages; it is the only sort of example they understand. For the German empire to apply international law in cases like this would not be either humanity or justice; it would be shame...

Why Sudan is Facing a Multi-Billion-Dollar Bill

“We paid the price twice” for Bashir’s dictatorship, says Amjed Farid, the opposition activist. “We got rid of the tyrant who was supporting terror, through a popular revolution that we paid for with our blood. And now we are paying the price for this tyrant, even though we were his first victims.” “Is this justice?”

The Con of British Aid

And this is only one example. It is a con more than a scandal. It is a smokescreen, a cover, employed by a an imperialist state as an ideological tool: “we are good people and we show compassion.”  It is a deception. British aid is a scandal Related Aid in the case of Palestine

Ayn Rand

Via Michael Roberts The hypocrisy of ideology of the superiority of the rich and greedy, as propounded by the philiosopher Ayn Rand has been exposed. Ayn Rand has been followed as a guru for free markets, laisser faire and the rich's right to rule by the likes of Alan Greenspan, Paul Ryan and Rand Paul in the US. In a 1962 essay, Rand wrote of seventeenth century French businessmen: “They knew that government ‘help’ to business is just as disastrous as government persecution, and that the only way a government can be of service to national prosperity is by keeping its hands off.” But now the Ayn Rand Institute has accepted state bailout funding of up to $1m from the Trump administration. The Institute commented: "We will take it unapologetically, because the principle here is: justice, "adding that as "the government has no wealth of its own…. It can only redistribute the wealth of others." Related Ayn Rand, Pope Francis and the philosophy o...
Britain "I find it hard to believe that the government would have made the decision to strip a British born subject of their citizenship and the media and public being so supportive of the decision if Shamima Begum had been a 15 year-old impressionable white girl who had made the same foolish and immature decisions. If this was a young BRITISH white girl she would be sitting on a Breakfast TV sofa recounting her traumatic adventurous experience with book deals and film scripts piling up at her door and with Newsnight and Dispatches competing for an exclusive interview. Such is the subtlety of society’s unspoken racism, the nature of our warped reality and the power of the state to manufacture and manipulate public opinion to serve their own nefarious desires."   —Ishmahil  Blagrove, 22 February 2019 "I think that she should be returned to face an investigation and for justice. That a court of law should decide what happens from there, rather than a court of Fac...
"The life of the honest man must be an apostasy and a perpetual desertion. The honest man must be a perpetual renegade, the life of an honest man must be a perpetual infidelity. For the man who wishes to remain faithful to truth must make himself continually unfaithful to all the continual, successive, indefatigable renascent errors. And the man who wishes to remain faithful to justice must make himself continually unfaithful to inexhaustibly triumphant injustices." —Charles Péguy
Justice If you earn £25000/year before tax, it takes the Brazilian player Neymar 6 minutes to earn your weekly salary ! May be it is worth it. A footballer entertains us and makes us happy; he might even help us release some orgasmic energy!  In doing that, he is more useful to society than a nurse or a cleaner.
At the heart of it is the bourgeois liberal notion of justice—wherein equal and unequal people must be treated equally. It is equalizing the violent acts of the conqueror with those of the conquered. It is neither the Aristotelian nor the Marxist notion of justice—wherein justice means treating equal people equally and unequal people unequally.

"The question that emerges clearly and forcefully is one of justice. What does justice for Muslims mean in the face of US [led] state violence?  The answer, as you can imagine, is complex, but it is certain that endless wars, militarism, and intervention will not bring justice." 16 years into "the war on terror" and institutionalized Islamophobia lives on
Football Apart from being the opium of the our era , it is a crminal industry. Here is just one feature of this criminality, which people support and encourage it. Find out how long it takes Ronaldo, for example, to earn your annual wage. Or, how long it would take you  to earn Cristiano Ronaldo's annual wage?
